A native of Louisiana, H.D. Whatley graduated from Loyola College Prep in Shreveport, received his B.A. in English from the College of Charleston and his M.F.A. in Integrated Media Arts from Hunter College of the City University of New York.
A freelance writer since 1989, Whatley's writing has appeared in various print and on-line publications. His non-fiction writing includes book reviews, film reviews, wine reviews, academic papers and articles on military history.
On the fiction front, Whatley has published a short story in Golden Isles magazine and poetry in Birmingham Arts Journal, Heavy Hands Ink, Papercut, Poets for Living Waters, Warwick Unbound and Word Salad.
Whatley has directed, produced and written award-winning video documentaries filmed in Indiana, New York, Canada, England, France, Scotland and Spain. His videos have screened in festivals in Chicago, Houston, New York City, Philadelphia, Utah, England, Belgium and India.
Whatley has taught as an adjunct assistant professor in media and communications at Hunter College and Manhattanville College. Currently, he teaches at the Raffles Design Institute in Tianjin, China.
