William Madison Kemp

William Madison Kemp was known as "Buck" to his friends and family. He served in the War Between the States as a Private in the 27th Louisiana Infantry from 14 March 1862 to 15 June 1865. Captured by the Union army, Kemp was a prisoner of war. He was exchanged in Shreveport, LA on 1 April 1864 and was paroled at Vicksburg, MS in June of 1865. He fought with two brothers along his side who were both killed in action. Kemp married Francis "Fannie" Elizabeth Williams on 4 October 1868 at Liberty Hill, LA. Together they had 14 children: seven boys and seven girls. Both Buck and Fannie are buried at Taylor Cemetery in Liberty Hill, Louisiana.
