Sim B. Whatley was the son of Archilous Berenger Whatley. Sim worked in a foundry in Ball, LA and later became a salesman in the meat packing business. Eventually, he became the owner of the Rapides Packing Company and S.B. Whatley Stock Farms, a 3,000 acre plantaion with a commercial herd of 500 cows and 1,000 steers, in Alexandria, LA. The brand was BAR 75. He married Winona Cook in November of 1919 and had four children: Stanford, Ray, Faye and Mildred. Sim B. Whatley was a freemason and was on the Board of Directors of Louisiana College, Rapides Bank & Trust and the YMCA.
